Today’s Topic: The “Constitution” Pipeline would be dangerous, even deadly, to the people living near it.
Suggested Talking Points:
- This 30-inch-diameter fracked-gas pipeline would cut through 100 miles of farms, streams and forests—and next to homes—in the northwest Catskills and central New York.
- Because of the low population density, these rural areas are categorized as “low consequence areas.”
- As such, the cheapest, thinnest-gauge metal pipe allowed by federal regulations is used, even for massive, high-pressure gas lines like the proposed “Constitution” line.
- Shut-off valves are often as far as 10 miles apart. And there are NO minimum distances from homes, barns or other structures required by federal regulations.
- This is unacceptable. I’m calling on the governor to stop this dangerous project.
