Day 22

30 Days to Stop the Pipeline

Call Governor Cuomo at 518-474-8390

Day 22

Today’s Topic: The “Constitution” Pipeline would significantly reduce property values along its route.

Suggested Talking Points:

  • Banks avoid lending to potential buyers for property crossed by a high-pressure fracked-gas pipeline, making these properties extremely difficult to sell. Pipelines can leak, rupture and explode. Lending institutions avoid the risks associated with heavy industry on private lands.
  • Fear of leaks, ruptures and explosions also severely limits the number of potential buyers of properties crossed by pipelines.
  • Homeowners insurance does not cover damage or injury for industrial operations. If a pipeline-related mishap were to occur on private property, the property owner would have to sue the pipeline company for damages and pay legal fees to defend against lawsuits associated with any claim. This severely reduces a property’s value.
  • Prospective buyers of rural property are often looking for fresh air and tranquil, naturally beautiful surroundings. The Constitution Pipeline would leave a massive scar along the landscape of rural New York. Its path would be further marred by gas-company signs, service roads, gates and above-ground metering equipment. Properties compromised in these ways have lower value.
  • Landowners will be left with a dangerous, high-pressure transmission line in their yard, and no choice except to live with the risks or sell their properties at a bargain price.
  • I’m calling on the Governor, acting Health Commissioner Zucker and DEC Commissioner Martens to protect the people of New York. If allowed to move forward, the Constitution Pipeline will ruin property values.

Each weekday, from now until May 11th, Stop the Pipeline will focus on a different reason why the Constitution Pipeline would be harmful to New York’s land, water, air and people.

YOUR phone calls are what helped us win a ban on fracking in New York. YOUR phone calls will help us stop the Constitution Pipeline, too.

A Quick Snapshot

This 30-inch-diameter, 124-mile-long high-pressure pipeline would carry fracked gas from Pennsylvania, through the forests, farms, fields and front yards of New York residents, and on to Canada for export.

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) can stop this Un-Constitutional Pipeline by DENYING the necessary permits.

How can you help?

Use the talking points in this email to tell Governor Cuomo and others why this project should be stopped.
