Day 15

30 Days to Stop the Pipeline

Call Governor Cuomo at 518-474-8390

Day 15

Today’s message regards the unconscionable use of eminent domain to take land from New Yorkers for the installation of a massive underground fracked-gas pipeline. According to the pipeline company itself, much of the gas transported in its line would be exported. If the “Constitution” Pipeline is built, energy company execs and shareholders will see huge profits. Landowners will be left with a dangerous, high-pressure pipeline in their backyards.

Help us bombard Governor Cuomo (518-474-8390; gov.cuomo@chamber.state.ny.us) and Attorney General Eric Schneiderman (212-416-8000; eric.schneiderman@ag.ny.gov) with calls and emails on this topic—right now.

Today’s Topic: The “Constitution” Pipeline would pave the way for pipeline companies to steal land by eminent domain from New Yorkers.

Suggested Talking Points:

  • Just weeks ago, the ironically named “Constitution” Pipeline Company used eminent domain to seize land from more than 75 New York citizens.
  • This land was seized so the company can build a 124-mile-long, 30-inch-diameter pipeline to transport fracked gas through central New York and up to Canada for export overseas to the highest bidder.
  • Once one pipeline is in the ground, other companies set their sights on the same corridor, claiming they will be utilizing a “pre-existing right-of-way.”
  • The landowner assumes all of the risk of living next to these high-pressure pipes and must continue to pay taxes on land from which energy companies will profit for years to come.
  • By allowing the Constitution Pipeline to be built, New York’s government would endorse the taking of its citizens’ property—not for the benefit of the common good but to increase the profits of giant energy corporations. This is unconscionable.
  • I’m calling on Governor Cuomo and Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to protect New Yorkers’ land. Stop the Constitution Pipeline.

Each weekday, from now until May 11th, Stop the Pipeline will focus on a different reason why the Constitution Pipeline would be harmful to New York’s land, water, air and people.

YOUR phone calls are what helped us win a ban on fracking in New York. YOUR phone calls will help us stop the Constitution Pipeline, too.

A Quick Snapshot

This 30-inch-diameter, 124-mile-long high-pressure pipeline would carry fracked gas from Pennsylvania, through the forests, farms, fields and front yards of New York residents, and on to Canada for export.

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) can stop this Un-Constitutional Pipeline by DENYING the necessary permits.

How can you help?

Use the talking points in this email to tell Governor Cuomo and others why this project should be stopped.
