Day 19

30 Days to Stop the Pipeline

Call Governor Cuomo at 518-474-8390

Day 19

Today’s Topic: The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the “Constitution” Pipeline has been deemed inadequate by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).

Suggested Talking Points:

  • The DEC has stated that information provided by the Constitution Pipeline Company is incomplete and that additional information must be provided. The pipeline company has ignored these requests.
  • Constitution Pipeline Company has also ignored comments from the DEC regarding how the construction of this pipeline would adversely affect New York water quality.
  • In November 2012, the DEC asked that the Constitution pipeline route be located along existing utility corridors to “avoid the catastrophic erosion events witnessed by NYSDEC staff in previous pipeline installations….” Only 9% of the Constitution’s proposed route is currently co-located along existing corridors.
  • Governor Cuomo is well aware of this catastrophic erosion threat in New York. In his 2013 State of the State address, he declared, “There is a 100-year flood every two years now.”
  • I’m calling on the governor and the DEC to put a halt to this reckless project.

Each weekday, from now until May 11th, Stop the Pipeline will focus on a different reason why the Constitution Pipeline would be harmful to New York’s land, water, air and people.

YOUR phone calls are what helped us win a ban on fracking in New York. YOUR phone calls will help us stop the Constitution Pipeline, too.

A Quick Snapshot

This 30-inch-diameter, 124-mile-long high-pressure pipeline would carry fracked gas from Pennsylvania, through the forests, farms, fields and front yards of New York residents, and on to Canada for export.

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) can stop this Un-Constitutional Pipeline by DENYING the necessary permits.

How can you help?

Use the talking points in this email to tell Governor Cuomo and others why this project should be stopped.
