Day 25

30 Days to Stop the Pipeline

Call Governor Cuomo at 518-474-8390

Day 25

Today’s Topic: The “Constitution” Pipeline would turn rural central New York and the northwest Catskills into an industrialized fracked-gas super-highway.

Suggested Talking Points:

    • The “Constitution” pipeline has been intentionally “segmented” from other projects that are necessary to get the gas to market. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approves projects incrementally in order to minimize public outrage at cumulative impacts.

    • It is common knowledge that pipelines require compressor stations at regular intervals (usually there’s one every 40 miles) in order to move gas through the lines, yet no such stations are included in the Constitution Pipeline proposal.

    • Compressor stations are loud industrial facilities that pollute on a massive scale. They emit dangerous amounts of methane and other toxic, carcinogenic gases, which exacerbate global warming and impact local health.

    • Fracked-gas pipelines bring not only compressor stations, but also CNG (compressed natural gas), LNG (liquefied natural gas) and other local gas storage facilities, as well as gas-fired power plants. For evidence of this infrastructure being built near pipelines in New York, visit youareherenymapny.org.

    • Pipelines also bring more pipelines. Last year, energy giant Kinder Morgan proposed its “Northeast Energy Direct Tennessee Gas Pipeline” (NED). It would run parallel to the Constitution—just 25 to 50 feet away—along most of its 100-mile span through New York.

    • The Constitution Pipeline is not a simple standalone project. It is the beginning of the industrialization of rural New York.

    • I’m calling on the leaders of New York to stop the industrialization and poisoning of the farms, forests and small towns of our state. Stop the Constitution Pipeline.

Each weekday, from now until May 11th, Stop the Pipeline will focus on a different reason why the Constitution Pipeline would be harmful to New York’s land, water, air and people.

YOUR phone calls are what helped us win a ban on fracking in New York. YOUR phone calls will help us stop the Constitution Pipeline, too.

A Quick Snapshot

This 30-inch-diameter, 124-mile-long high-pressure pipeline would carry fracked gas from Pennsylvania, through the forests, farms, fields and front yards of New York residents, and on to Canada for export.

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) can stop this Un-Constitutional Pipeline by DENYING the necessary permits.

How can you help?

Use the talking points in this email to tell Governor Cuomo and others why this project should be stopped.

Feel free to elaborate on how the pipeline would adversely affect you, your home, business, family, friends and neighbors.
