Day 8: 30 Days to Stop the Pipeline
Call Governor Cuomo now at 518-474-8390

Day 8

Today’s message, which has to do with fracking, is aimed at DEC Commissioner Joseph Martens and Acting Health Commissioner Howard Zucker, as well as Governor Cuomo. Call or email all three.

Today’s Topic: The “Constitution” Pipeline would guarantee dangerous and toxic fracking in central New York if the state’s fracking ban is reversed.

Suggested Talking Points:

  • In late 2014, Governor Cuomo, DEC Commissioner Martens and acting Health Commissioner Zucker showed the world that they care about protecting New York’s air and water and New Yorkers’ health and safety by announcing a ban on horizontal hydraulic fracturing.
  • The proposed “Constitution” Pipeline would sit atop both the Utica and Marcellus shale fields in central New York. (The Marcellus field in Pennsylvania has produced the largest volume of fracked gas in the continental US.)
  • In testimony from February 2013 to the New York Public Service Commission, the pipeline company stated that their strategy is to “develop the gathering and processing infrastructure required for successful development
[aka fracking] of the Marcellus Shale in New York.”
  • If New York’s fracking ban is overturned, fracking would take place in the forests and farms along this pipeline, poisoning our water and air.
  • I urge Governor Cuomo and Commissioners Martens and Zucker to uphold their commitment to protecting New York and stop this pipeline. It would pave the way for the fracking and subsequent poisoning of New York and its famously clean water.
  •

Each weekday, from now until May 11th, Stop the Pipeline will focus on a different reason why the Constitution Pipeline would be harmful to New York’s land, water, air and people.

YOUR phone calls are what helped us win a ban on fracking in New York. YOUR phone calls will help us stop the Constitution Pipeline, too.

A Quick Snapshot

This 30-inch-diameter, 124-mile-long high-pressure pipeline would carry fracked gas from Pennsylvania, through the forests, farms, fields and front yards of New York residents, and on to Canada for export.

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) can stop this Un-Constitutional Pipeline by DENYING the necessary permits.

How can you help?

Use the talking points in this email to tell Governor Cuomo and others why this project should be stopped.

Feel free to elaborate on how the pipeline would adversely affect you, your home, business, family, friends and neighbors.
