Day 6
30 Days to Stop the Pipeline: A phone call a day keeps the Constitution Pipeline away
We need YOU to call Governor Cuomo and other New York decision makers right now and tell them why they shouldn’t sacrifice the Catskills and Southern Tier to a fracked-gas pipeline.
Today’s Topic: The “Constitution” Pipeline would hurt the tourism economy in the northwest Catskills and and central New York.
Suggested Talking Points:
- For more than a century, the rural, forested part of the northwest Catskills and central New York has been a beloved travel destination, sought out for its natural beauty, peace and quiet, clean air and water, and excellent hiking, fishing and hunting.
- This year, the Catskills has been named one of the top travel destinations in the world by Time magazine, the New York Times and Condé Nast Traveler.
- Organic farms, orchards, craft distilleries and breweries, cideries, cheese-making operations, farm-to-table restaurants, bed and breakfasts and small hotels are opening at an unprecedented rate—and they are thriving.
- Allowing a high-pressure, potentially explosive fracked-gas pipeline to cut through 100 miles of this region would threaten the survival of sustainable businesses that depend on clean air and water.
- This part of New York is also prime real estate for New York City residents looking for weekend getaways to either rent or buy. The “Constitution” Pipeline would invite industrialization and hurt the real estate economy.
- In addition, the pipeline would hurt the trout-fishing industry. Fresh-water anglers annually spend $1.5 billion pursuing their sport in New York.
- Governor Cuomo should ask the Department of Environmental Conservation to deny the permits for this economically ruinous pipeline.

YOUR phone calls are what helped us win a ban on fracking in New York. YOUR phone calls will help us stop the Constitution Pipeline, too.
A Quick Snapshot
This 30-inch-diameter, 124-mile-long high-pressure pipeline would carry fracked gas from Pennsylvania, through the forests, farms, fields and front yards of New York residents, and on to Canada for export.
The New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) can stop this Un-Constitutional Pipeline by DENYING the necessary permits.
