Day 9: 30 Days to Stop the Pipeline
Call Governor Cuomo at 518-474-8390

Day 9

Today’s Topic: If Governor Cuomo allows the “Constitution” Pipeline to be built, it will show the nation that he is not committed to lowering greenhouse gas emissions.

Suggested Talking Points:

  • According to the governor’s 2014 campaign website, he led a multi-state effort to lower carbon emissions in the northeast by 45 percent through the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.
  • If the governor is truly committed to this effort, how can he allow the construction of a massive, high-pressure fracked-gas pipeline through the forests and fields of the northwest Catskills?
  • The “Constitution” Pipeline would increase greenhouse emissions.
  • Shale gas has a larger greenhouse-gas footprint than coal or oil.
  • To build the pipeline, 1,000 acres of trees would have to be cut. These 700,000+ trees currently capture carbon and help keep New York’s air clean.
  • I’m calling on the governor to show New Yorkers that he is committed to reducing greenhouse gases. He must ask the DEC to deny the permits for this backwards-thinking pipeline in order to uphold his commitment to lowering greenhouse gas emissions.

Each weekday, from now until May 11th, Stop the Pipeline will focus on a different reason why the Constitution Pipeline would be harmful to New York’s land, water, air and people.

YOUR phone calls are what helped us win a ban on fracking in New York. YOUR phone calls will help us stop the Constitution Pipeline, too.

A Quick Snapshot

This 30-inch-diameter, 124-mile-long high-pressure pipeline would carry fracked gas from Pennsylvania, through the forests, farms, fields and front yards of New York residents, and on to Canada for export.

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) can stop this Un-Constitutional Pipeline by DENYING the necessary permits.

How can you help?

Use the talking points in this email to tell Governor Cuomo and others why this project should be stopped.

Feel free to elaborate on how the pipeline would adversely affect you, your home, business, family, friends and neighbors.
